The Office of Integrity & Compliance works closely with compliance partners across all campuses to provide centralized oversight, strategic management, and substantive support toward mitigation of risk and advancement of ethical, lawful, and professional conduct. Through collaboration with these partners, OIC facilitates alignment of policies and processes, fosters continuous improvement of best practices, and supports a climate of accountability and integrity.




Privacy: HIPAA and FERPA

  • HIPAA Compliance Policy

    The KU Medical Center is committed to protecting individuals' health information in compliance with various federal, state, and university regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

  • FERPA Guidelines

    The KU Medical Center ensures the confidentiality of student records in accordance with various federal, state, and university regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as amended, also known as the Buckley Amendment.

  • Research Integrity and Research Misconduct

    KUMC encourages innovation by faculty and staff in order to fulfill our mission of delivering new knowledge and technologies. Conflict of interest oversight contributes to our unquestioned commitment to scientific objectivity and to the safety of our research volunteers. Similarly, KUMC strives to create a research environment that espouses honesty and integrity, not only because regulatory agencies, journal editors and the public expect it, but because it is the right thing to do.

  • Accessibility

    The University is committed to providing equal access for individuals with disabilities to the academic, social, cultural, and employment opportunities available at KU Medical Center. The Office of ADA Compliance promotes and supports the university's culture of inclusion and equal access for people with disabilities.

  • Clery Act

    The federal Clery Act requires higher education institutions to publicly report statistics concerning the occurrence of certain criminal offenses involving students, faculty, staff or visitors. The Office of Civil Rights/Title IX works collaboratively with campus partners to coordinate all University compliance activities regarding the Clery Act. Each KU campus’ Annual Security Report provides information about campus safety and security policies and procedures as well as crime information.

  • Data Management

    KU Medical Center recognizes that data is a valued resource that must be governed and protected. The Office of Information Security, in collaboration with the University Privacy Officer, provides guidance on determining how to handle and protect University data, information and records in any form (paper, digital text, image, audio, video, microfilm, etc.) during the course of conducting University business (administrative, financial, education, research or service).   • Employee Training

    KU Medical Center provides a variety of training options to help KU employees gain knowledge and skills to make them more effective and successful in their academic, research, and work endeavors.   • Export Compliance

    It is the policy of KU to fully abide by federal and state laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Office of Foreign Assets and Control (OFAC), and all other bodies of export and import regulations. The Office of Export Compliance advises University faculty and staff on international export/import controls, provides procedural guidance, and implements training to support international activity.

  • Financial Aid Compliance - Consumer Information

    KU Medical Center’s Office of Financial Aid provides consumer information for students, parents, prospective students, and other constituents. This includes basic financial aid information, FERPA policies, drug & alcohol abuse prevention information, and student outcome related data.

  • Information Security

    KU Medical Center’s Office of Information Security provides security information, analysis, risk management and mitigation, awareness, and guidance to help protect the University's information assets and technology environment. (KUMC sign-in required)

  • Policy Program

    The KU Medical Center’s Policy Program serves as a resource on the process by which policies are created, revised, and published. As a service unit, the Policy Program values collaboration with subject matter experts and strives to make each policy development process as inclusive as possible to ensure that policies are appropriate and serve our campus community.
