Core Compliance Areas
ADA Accessibility
The University is committed to providing equal access for individuals with disabilities to the academic, social, cultural, and employment opportunities available at the University of Kansas.
KU Medical Center's Office of ADA Compliance promotes and supports the university's culture of inclusion and equal access for people with disabilities.

Clery Act Compliance
The federal Clery Act requires higher education institutions to publicly report statistics concerning the occurrence of certain criminal offenses involving students, faculty, staff or visitors. The Office of Civil Rights/Title IX works collaboratively with campus partners to coordinate all University compliance activities regarding the Clery Act. Each KU campus’ Annual Security Report provides information about campus safety and security policies and procedures as well as crime information.

Compliance Monitoring Program
The University is committed to ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and university policies through ongoing compliance monitoring. The Office of Integrity and Compliance (OIC), under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Audit, Risk & Compliance and Chief Risk Officer, is authorized to conduct compliance monitoring reviews and investigations across all university units, including schools, colleges, administrative offices, and affiliated corporations. The purpose of compliance monitoring reviews is to prevent, detect, and address compliance risks and to promote a culture of accountability and ethical conduct. This approach aligns with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which emphasize monitoring and auditing as essential elements of an effective compliance and ethics program.

Conflict of Interest
The University of Kansas is committed to ethics and scientific integrity in all aspects of its research enterprise. The One KU Conflict of Interest Program helps ensure that research decisions are guided by objectivity, transparency, and accountability. Through disclosure, review, and management of outside financial interests and relationships, the program works to identify situations that could compromise—or appear to compromise—the design, conduct, or reporting of research or one’s professional commitment to the University. This oversight supports responsible collaboration, protects research participants and sponsors, and strengthens public confidence in the university’s scholarly work.

Data Management
The University recognizes that data is a valued resource that must be governed and protected. The Office of Information Security, in collaboration with the University Privacy Officer, provides guidance on determining how to handle and protect University data, information and records in any form (paper, digital text, image, audio, video, microfilm, etc.) while conducting University business (administrative, financial, education, research or service).

Employee Training
The University of Kansas provides a variety of training options to help KU employees gain knowledge and skills to make them more effective and successful in their academic, research, and work endeavors. In addition to required annual compliance training, personal and professional development opportunities are available. In addition to annual compliance trainings, professional development opportunities can be found in the MyTalent Performance Management System (KU Lawrence sign-in required) and the Saba Learning Management System (KUMC sign-in required).

Policy Administration
Policy Administration functions as an institution-wide resource for policy and policy development. As stewards of the University Policy Program, Policy Administration is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of the Policy Library, the University’s official archive for policy.

Privacy: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The University of Kansas ensures the confidentiality of student records in accordance with various federal, state, and university regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as amended, also known as the Buckley Amendment.

Privacy: Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)
The University of Kansas is committed to protecting individuals' health information in compliance with various federal, state, and university regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Research Misconduct
The University of Kansas is committed to ethics and scientific integrity as the foundation of credible and responsible research. Led by Ryan Werth, University Research Integrity Officer, the One KU Research Misconduct Program upholds these standards by addressing allegations of fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism through established institutional procedures. Its purpose is to protect the integrity of the research record, promote accountability in scholarly activity, and ensure that concerns are handled with fairness, confidentiality, and due process. By reinforcing expectations for honesty and rigor, the Research Misconduct Program helps maintain a trustworthy research environment across the university.
